Layers are invisible and visible at the same time. Layers are deeply embedded and fundamental but also stand in our way. To touch something is to push against a layer of skin from below, and feel a muted, watered down version of a real touch.

There is always something in between you, and where you are heading. It’s constantly growing in every direction, and the more layers are added, the deeper embedded the ones that came before become. So deeply embedded that they become invisible.

Language is such a layer. Clothing. Buildings. Especially glass. Difference in height. A tool in your hand. A metaphor.
